Klick mich und ich werde gross... Orignially the Hofburg was a medieval castle, but only the chapel ('Burgkapelle') remained from its medieval past.
Mass at the medieval chapel on sundays is an excellent opportunity to listen to the voices of famous Vienna´s Boys Choir!
Neue Hofburg

The Imperial Palace was extended to an imperial residence when the Habsburg's power increased. Nowadays one can find almost any architectural style, from gothic to art nouveau (Jugendstil). Today this vast complex houses the Österreichische Nationalbibliothek (National Library of Austria), the Schatzkammer (Imperial Treasury), and accomodates a collection of valuable musical instruments as well as a collection of weapons, a "Museum für Völkerkunde" (Museum of Ethnography) and the famous Spanische Hofreitschule (Spanish Riding School).

Stallburg
Working on plans of F. Lucchese, Claro Antonio Carlone renewed the Leopoldinischer Trakt on the southwestern side from 1660-1666. After a fire, restoration work was performed from 1668 to 1681 and an additional storey was added. It accomodates the richly decorated rooms that were inhabited by the Emperor Franz I and Maria Theresia. Nowadays it houses the office of the Austrian Federal President.

1723 Hildebrandt supplied plans for the building of the Reichskanzlei (Imperial Chancellery) finished in 1730 by Fischer von Erlach. It houses the Emperor´s apartments, open to the public and furnished with paintings and furniture from1820 to 1900, including the living quarters and state rooms of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth.
