The Anchor Clock, designed by the painter Franz von Matsch, was built between 1911 and 1917 and it is representing a typical Art Nouveau design. The Clock is a tribute to important figures of Austrian history and it is adorned with mosaic ornaments.
Forming a bridge between two parts of the Anker Company's building, the'Ankeruhr' is a reminder of Vienna's past and the frail state of live. In the course of 12 hours, twelve historical figures move across the bridge among them Joseph Haydn, Walther von der Vogelweide, Prince Eugen of Savoya and Empress Maria Theresa. Every day at noon, all figures turn up accompanied by music.
